expert ship command that complements and supports all business purposes of sea trials.
Sea Trials Command Organization LLC (STCO) are experts in command of ships on newbuilding sea trials. STCO has worked with shipbuilders since 1986, providing command, management and administration for sea trials, hurricane runs, and deliveries of new ships.
As professional merchant marine officers, STCO's focus includes managing the marine risk inherent in the shipbuilder's temporary role as operator of a ship at sea. STCO blends their ship command and management expertise with the shipbuilding and engineering expertise of the shipbuilder, to form a cohesive team working together to accomplish the mission of the sea trial.
STCO’s Sea Trials Master and Bridge Watch Officers are highly trained and experienced in an exceptionally wide range of ship types, including naval combatants and auxiliaries, tankers, containerships, research ships, offshore service vessels, articulated tug-barge units (ATB), tugboats, dredges, conventional ferries, and high speed craft. In addition, STCO's Sea Trials Master has the experience of over 100 sea trials, and many STCO Bridge Watch Officers have similar sea trials experience.
Many STCO Bridge Watch Officers hold senior licenses, providing organizational depth and flexibility for high reliability. With personnel sourced from many parts of the United States, STCO is always available, notwithstanding adverse local or regional events.
STCO furnishes key management structures including a mature, robust, proprietary safety management system crafted and refined specifically for sea trials, as well as the depth of management experience, that together ensure the sea trial, hurricane run or delivery is accomplished with the greatest efficiency, safety and success.
STCO also furnishes consultants focused on sea trials marine risk management in co-ordination with the shipbuilder’s sea trial agenda.
All work groups are scalable to the shipbuilder’s need, from a single mariner or consultant to an entire crew.
STCO is organized as a one-call center of expertise furnishing personnel, their travel arrangements, the management structures and the equipment needed to safely, efficiently and successfully conduct a sea trial, hurricane run, or delivery.
Preparations for command of a ship on sea trial or delivery voyage require considerable lead time.
Lead time of about eight weeks helps ensure all preparations are completed on time
and in coordination with the normal course of the Builder's operations.
